One week after marching through the streets of Owerri, the Imo State capital, Nigerians in their thousands defied the heavy downpour as they took over Port Harcourt, in Rivers State, to stage the P/H City leg of the One-Million Man March in support of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections, Dr Peter Obi.
This is also in Lagos, thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Saturday, also marched through parts of Ikeja, including Allen Avenue, in the state in support of the ambitions of the ruling party’s standard bearer.
It would be recalled that last Saturday, in Imo, the supporters, mostly the youth, marched through the streets of Owerri, for the One Million Man March in support of the former Anambra State Governor.
The march held while Obi was in Delta State meeting with the Olu of Warri, HRH Ogiame Atuwatse III, same Saturday.
Supporters of Obi and his Vice Presidential candidate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed have dominated headlines recently for their One Million Man March initiative across the country.
The current phase of the march has seen it hold in Owerri, Port Harcourt. Calabar, the Cross river tate capital is expected to be the next stop of the march.
The heavy rains did not deter the marchers as they walked through the streets of Port Harcourt of the LP candidate, Obi, who incidentally is in Germany attending a function.
Same as last Saturday’s rally in Owerri, Obi was instead in Delta State at the palace of the Olu of Warri when the march held.
The Port Harcourt marched from the popular Oil Mill Market to the Isaac Boro Park in the Rivers State capital in support of Obi.
Some of the youths said the exercise was to show that “Peter Obi has the required structure” to win the presidential election next year.
Popular faces who participated at the Port Harcourt march included Nollywood veteran actress, Hilda Dokubo.
