Armed herdsmen on Thursday invaded Umogidi community in Entekpa Ward of Adoka District in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State killing two persons, just as they left several persons injured.
This latest attack came a few days after 10 persons were killed, while several persons injured after the attack in the community.
According to Joseph Adakole, a local of the area claimed that the deceased were his uncle and cousin,just as he also added that the attackers said t stormed the community on Thursday evening and opened fire on the victims.
“The herdsmen attacked Umogidi again in the evening of Thursday and killed some persons and left others injured. The two that were confirmed dead so far were my relatives. One was my uncle, and the other was a cousin,” he said.
Speaking on the latest development, the Caretaker Chairman of Otukpo, Alfred Omakwu, said aside from killing the two victims, the marauders also engaged the military and security personnel deployed to the area.
Omakwu added that that the attackers, after retreating, threatened to stage a comeback, but calm had returned to the community.
“From Friday, there has been calm, and the military presence has increased. But we are still receiving threats from them. Two of our youths were killed on Thursday. At the point of their entry into the community, they engaged those ones and the military too,” he said.
As at the time of filing this report, the state police command has yet to comment on the sad development.
