An explosion suspected to be caused by an improvised explosive device has struck the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving many travellers feared dead.
The blast occurred along the busy highway, throwing commuters into panic as vehicles were damaged and people fled the scene for safety. The exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
Police authorities said they were aware of the incident but could not immediately provide full details. A police spokesperson said, “I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but it just happened. Details will be made available later.”
Videos circulating online show the aftermath of the explosion, with stranded travellers running from the area amid fear of further attacks. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with injured persons seeking help and vehicles abandoned on the road.
Residents and road users have called on security agencies to move swiftly to secure the route and investigate the incident, as concerns grow over the safety of travellers using the highway.
