The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by the organisation’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, as fake, deepening the ongoing probe into the alleged illegal agency.
The committee reached the conclusion during Wednesday’s investigative hearing after examining documents submitted by Adeyemi and comparing them with verified records from relevant government institutions. Lawmakers said the appointment letter could not be authenticated and showed signs of forgery.
Committee Chairman Yusuf Gagdi said the findings reinforced allegations that the purported agency relied on forged government documents to present itself as a legitimate federal institution. He noted that investigators had already identified dozens of questionable documents linked to the council.
The committee also heard from officials of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Accountant-General’s Office, the Central Bank of Nigeria and other government agencies, all of whom distanced their organisations from the controversial council.
Lawmakers maintained that the investigation is aimed at uncovering how the alleged fake agency secured office space, processed recruitment approvals and found its way into the 2026 federal budget despite lacking legal backing.
The police informed the committee that Adeyemi could not be produced before lawmakers because he is currently being held under a valid Federal High Court order. The House panel said it would obtain the necessary court approval to enable his appearance before the committee.
The investigation is expected to continue as lawmakers seek to identify everyone involved in the alleged forgery and determine whether criminal or administrative sanctions should follow.
