Nollywood actors, family members, friends and admirers of late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, gathered in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 31, 2026, for the actor’s eighth-day Fidau prayer.
The Islamic prayer was organised by the family as part of the mourning activities following the death of the celebrated Yoruba film star, who passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling stage-four cancer.
Ogogo was buried in his hometown, Ilaro, on Monday, August 24, 2026, in accordance with Islamic rites, shortly after his death at the age of 66.
The Fidau brought together colleagues from the entertainment industry alongside relatives, friends, fans and well-wishers who gathered to honour the actor and pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.
The family had earlier appealed to Ogogo’s colleagues, friends, fans and well-wishers to attend the prayer in large numbers and continue to stand by the family during the difficult period.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who announced the programme on behalf of the family, urged members of the entertainment industry to come together to offer prayers for Ogogo and remember his contributions to Nigerian cinema.
Ogogo, who hailed from Ilaro, spent more than four decades in the entertainment industry and became one of the recognisable faces of Yoruba-language cinema. He worked as an actor, producer, director and screenwriter and appeared in numerous film and theatre productions.
His death had generated widespread grief across Nollywood, particularly after members of his family disclosed that he had been battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical assistance before his condition deteriorated.
Beyond his performances on screen, Ogogo was remembered for his contribution to the growth of Yoruba theatre and film, with his career spanning several generations of Nigerian entertainers.
The family has also announced an Artistes’ Day in his honour, scheduled to hold 40 days after his burial at Pavilion Hall, Ilaro.
According to Jide Kosoko, the event will be coordinated by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and will bring together actors, musicians, comedians, singers and other entertainers to celebrate Ogogo’s life and legacy.
The Artistes’ Day is expected to provide another opportunity for colleagues to celebrate the late actor’s career and reflect on his contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
For Ogogo’s family, colleagues and admirers, the eighth-day Fidau in Ilaro represents another solemn moment to remember a veteran whose career left a lasting mark on Yoruba entertainment and Nigerian cinema.
