The Presidency has urged Nigerians to help monitor compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s order to withdraw police escorts for VIPs.
Daniel Bwala, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, made the appeal during an interview on Sunday, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to enforcing the directive and asking citizens to report any violations.
“If you see a celebrity, private individual, or anyone with police protection against the president’s order, try to document it with a photo or video,” Bwala said.
He clarified that the order does not affect all government officials. “Some critical officials will still have security where necessary,” he explained, noting that other agencies like the State Security Service (SSS) and the Civil Defence may provide protection instead of the police.
Bwala added, “It could be the SSS, Civil Defence, and not the police who will be there to assist. But the police should not be assigned to VIPs.”
The directive is part of the government’s ongoing effort to ensure police resources focus on public safety rather than individual protection, aiming to improve efficiency and accountability.
