AFCON 2025 Stars Risk Suspension

Four Super Eagles players are at risk of suspension ahead of Nigeria’s final AFCON 2025 Group C match against Uganda on Tuesday, following yellow cards picked up in earlier games.

Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali have all been booked in the tournament and will miss Nigeria’s Round of 16 match if they receive another yellow card against Uganda.

Osimhen was cautioned during the win over Tunisia after celebrating his opening goal by gesturing towards the opposing bench. With another booking meaning suspension, the coaching crew may decide to rest the striker, with Paul Onuachu considered as a possible replacement.

Lookman, who has scored in both group matches so far, was booked in the opening game against Tanzania and is also walking a fine line. Defender Semi Ajayi received a yellow card for a rough challenge in the Tunisia match, putting him at risk as well, while Zaidu Sanusi could be an option if changes are needed in defence.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was booked for time-wasting late in the Tunisia match and will also be suspended if cautioned again. Francis Uzoho is available to step in should the need arise.

Nigeria will be aiming to secure qualification while carefully managing discipline to avoid losing key players ahead of the knockout stage.
