The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In its ruling on Friday, the court also restrained Kabiru Turaki and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party, dealing a major setback to the faction that emerged from the convention.
Despite deep internal disagreements, the PDP had gone ahead with its two-day 2025 Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan. The event, tagged #Ibadan2025, drew thousands of delegates, party leaders and supporters from across the country.
The court decision is the latest development in the leadership crisis rocking the PDP, which has resulted in multiple factions and prolonged legal battles over control of the party’s national structure.
Reacting to the judgment, the PDP, in a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, said it would challenge the ruling at the appellate court. The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, urged members to remain calm, insisting that the party’s position remains strong.
According to the statement, the faction led by Kabiru Turaki remains confident that the appellate courts will overturn the ruling. It added that party members should stay united, stressing that there is no reason for panic.
As the matter moves to the appellate level, PDP members and observers are closely watching the case, which could have far-reaching effects on the party’s future and its preparations for upcoming political activities.
