The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has again clarified that its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye, has not endorsed any political party or candidate, following renewed public discussions about the church’s relationship with politicians. The church stressed that it remains open to worshippers from different political backgrounds and does not operate as an arm of any political movement.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation linking the church to the ruling APC because some prominent political figures, including public office holders, worship within the denomination. RCCG leaders, however, insisted that the presence of politicians in the church does not translate into political endorsement.
According to the church, Pastor Adeboye’s role is to provide spiritual leadership and pray for the nation rather than campaign for political parties or candidates. The church noted that members of different political parties worship together in RCCG congregations across Nigeria and around the world.
Adeboye recently dismissed claims that RCCG is an APC church, stating that governors and politicians from various parties, including the APC, PDP, Labour Party and others, are part of the church community. He maintained that the altar is not a platform for partisan politics and that all Nigerians are welcome regardless of political affiliation.
The church’s position is consistent with statements Adeboye has made over the years. He has repeatedly said he would never tell church members which party to support or which candidate to vote for, stressing that politics is not his calling.
RCCG also pointed to previous occasions when it publicly denied reports claiming Adeboye had endorsed political candidates. Ahead of the 2023 elections, the church issued statements rejecting reports that he had backed any presidential aspirant, insisting that neither the pastor nor the denomination would endorse candidates.
The latest clarification comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to intensify, with religious organisations increasingly facing questions about their relationships with political leaders and parties.
Church officials say RCCG’s focus remains on worship, evangelism, community development and prayers for national peace and progress. They insist that while politicians are free to attend services, the church will continue to maintain a non-partisan stance in the country’s political affairs.
