The Federal High Court of Nigeria has announced its 2026 annual vacation, with the break scheduled to begin on Monday, 27 July 2026 and end on Friday, 11 September 2026.
The announcement was made in line with Order 46, Rule 4(d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, and was approved by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho.
According to the court, although the annual vacation will take effect within the stated period, judicial services will not be completely shut down, as urgent matters will still be entertained through designated vacation courts across selected judicial divisions.
The court explained that only urgent cases will be heard during the vacation period, and members of the public as well as legal practitioners are expected to file such matters at the nearest designated vacation court.
The Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Enugu judicial divisions have been selected to remain operational during the period to handle emergency and time-sensitive cases.
For the Abuja Division, the designated vacation judges are Justice J. O. Abdulmalik and Justice O. A. Egwuatu.
In the Lagos Division, Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Ogazi F. Nkemakonam will preside over matters filed during the vacation.
For the Port Harcourt Division, Justice P. M. Ayua and Justice A. T. Mohammed have been assigned as vacation judges.
In the Enugu Division, Justice F. O. G. Ogunbanjo and Justice M. T. Segun-Bello will handle urgent cases that arise during the break period.
The Chief Judge, in the announcement, also extended goodwill to his learned colleagues, wishing them a pleasant vacation ahead.
