The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested two elderly men in Abia State for allegedly selling illegal drugs to students in a crackdown targeting drug trafficking around schools.
NDLEA officials said the suspects, both grandfathers, were caught during an intelligence-led operation aimed at stopping the spread of drug activities involving young people in the state.
Not fewer than two suspects were taken into custody after operatives uncovered their alleged role in supplying banned substances to students within the community.
According to the agency, the arrests followed weeks of surveillance after receiving reports about suspicious activities linked to drug sales near schools.
Investigators said the elderly suspects had reportedly been operating quietly while targeting young buyers, especially students in the area.
NDLEA officials described the development as disturbing, warning that anyone involved in exposing young people to harmful substances would face prosecution.
The agency stressed that protecting students from drug abuse remains one of its major priorities as part of ongoing nationwide enforcement operations.
Authorities added that further investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals connected to the illegal distribution network.
The suspects are expected to face charges in court once investigations are completed by the anti-drug agency.
NDLEA has continued to intensify efforts across Nigeria to reduce drug trafficking and prevent the growing involvement of young people in substance abuse.
