Results from the Osun governorship election conducted in the 30 local government areas of the state, Saturday, have started trickling in with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke taking an early lead over the incumbent governor, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from the outcome so far emerging.

This is also as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have deployed to hometowns of the two leading candidates in the Osun governorship poll, Senator Adeleke and Governor Oyetola, in a bid to check the activities of vote buyers during the exercise.
According to INEC National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, out of the 1,955,657 registered voters in Osun, 1,479,959 voters have collected their PVCs.
With 14 candidates vying for the Government House, after the withdrawal by the Peoples Redemptio Party (PRP) of its candidate, Ayowole Adedeji, the PDP standard bearer has already taken the lead in about six local government areas out of the 30 in the state.
The PDP candidate, Senator Adeleke who had alleged being rigged out by the APC and its candidate, Oyetola would be seeking to correct the outcome of the poll in 2018 when Senator Iyiola Omisore, then candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) withdrew from a scheduled run-off poll for him, Adeleke and Oyetola, and aligned with the APC candidate to clinch victory in the election for the incumbent state governor, after the main election was controversially declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
