The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, Frank Nweke Junior has pledged to ensure that Enugu is enlisted amongst oil producing states within 18 to 24 months of his administration if elected governor in the next year’s election.
Nweke who gave the assurance during the Enugu Business Community Town hall Meeting organised by Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) and ECOBA, also pledged to make accountability his watch word if elected.
“When voted into power, I will make sure that Enugu get their fair share from the Federation.
“When we get into office, I can assure you that within 18 – 24 months, Enugu will be among the oil producing states.”
“I will also make accountability my watch word, and give account of my stewardship annually.
“Every year of my tenure, we shall give account of my stewardship because we would not allow Federal roads to deteriorate in the state but would tackle them.
“We will also work with the relevant institutions to ensure uninterrupted electricity and potable water supplies in the state,” he said.
Nweke also assured of improving the living conditions of public school teachers if elected in 2023, adding that public school teachers would be paid their full entitlements including pensions.
He said: “Teachers welfare and training will receive significant attention under my watch because a labourer is worthy of his wages.” He said
The former Minister of Information lamented over the money being voted for the office of the governor in the State in the budget which according to him was too high.
According to him, in the 2022 budget, a whooping sum of N17.7 billion was budgeted for the office of the governor which takes 10 per cent of the annual budget, promising to reduce it drastically if voted into office.
He said such monies should had been used for the development of the state’s infrastructure.
Nweke promised to make due process his watch word and in doing government business in Enugu State, adding that “We shall make it a real Due Process Office,” he stated.
