Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man identified as Gbenga Kolawole for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl after she got drunk during an annual church event in the state.
The Ogun State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Friday.
Odutola said the victim’s aggrieved mother reported to the police that her 16-year-old daughter, who got drunk during an annual church year anniversary celebration on the 6th of November, 2023, in Adubi, Ogun State, was raped.
He quoted the mother as has having said that she had taken her daughter to “a nearby bar shop and locked her there”.
She explained that the teenager later “became victim to one Gbenga Kolawole “m” 32yrs who had unlawful carnal knowledge of the drunk girl”.
According to Odutola, the suspect was caught in the act by one Mr Sunday Ibrahim of the same address.
“The victim has been taken to Ore Ofe Hospital for medical attention and treatment while the suspect has been arrested for preliminary investigation,” Odutola said.
