Immediate past Director General of the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation, Dr Doyin Okupe has described his successor, Akin Osuntokun, as a ‘committed and foundation member of the Peter Obi movement.’
Okupe who also called Osuntokun a ‘bossom friend’, further wished the latter well in his new position as the head of the Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed Presidential Campaign Organisation on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
Reacting to the appointment, Tuesday, of Dr Akin Osuntokun, a former aide to ex-Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as the new Director General of the Labour Party 2023 presidential campaign team, Dr Okupe, via his verified Twitter handle (@doyinokupe), Tuesday, described his successor as ‘a committed and foundation member of the great movement from the start.’
“I recieved (sic) the news of the appointment of my brother bossom friend, strong ally & confidant, Prof Akin Oshuntokun, as the new DG of the LP Obi-Baba Ahmed campaign organisation. Oshuntokun has been a committed & foundation member of this great movement frm d start. I wish him well,” Okupe said.
It would be recalled that, earlier Tuesday, the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 General Election, announced a replacement of its Director General.
Okupe bowed to pressure by announcing his resignation from the position after his constituency had removed him the party, even as a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja had initially convicted him of violating the Money Laundering Act.
The announcement of Okupe’s replacement by Obi was made, Tuesday, following the former’s submission of his resignation letter, same Tuesday, personally signed and addressed to the LP Presidential candidate, Obi.
According to the notice of appointment of Osuntokun as the Director General of the LP campaign council, signed by Obi’s Media Aide, Emeka Obasi, Osuntokun will head the campaign council, as a formal decision will be announced in 48 hours.
It would recalled that during a strategic meeting of the party, which had Obi, members of the National Working Committee and several political candidates of Labour Party in attendance, the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure had earlier announced Osuntokun as the new campaign DG.
Abure described the former managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as a ‘worthy and trustworthy’ replacement for Okupe.
Osuntokun became the South-West leader of the party after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the LP in August 2022.
