Lagos CP orders probe of Pastor Okafor

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate sexual misconduct allegations made against popular pastor Chris Okafor, the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries.

The police order followed public outrage over allegations that have spread widely on social media, with several women accusing the cleric of sexual abuse and misconduct. Despite the absence of a formal complaint at the time, the commissioner directed that the pastor be invited for questioning, alongside the alleged victims and witnesses.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the investigation would go ahead to establish the facts behind the allegations, as officers have been directed to take statements from all parties involved.

Pastor Okafor had earlier stepped down from his pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as the controversy grew. One of the accusers, Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, publicly claimed she had a long-term sexual relationship with the cleric, which she said began in 2017.

Ogala alleged that the pastor promised to marry her on several occasions but later married another woman, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025. She also accused him of sharing her private photos and videos without her consent.

During a church service last Sunday, the pastor publicly apologised to Ogala, knelt before the congregation, admitted to past mistakes, and asked for forgiveness.

Ogala further claimed the pastor caused her emotional pain, financial loss, and played a role in the breakdown of her previous marriage. She later demanded ₦1bn in damages through her lawyers, alleging threats and intimidation after her arrest and detention by the police.

As the allegations spread, other women, including the pastor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also came forward with similar claims, ranging from infidelity and manipulation to physical assault.

However, some church members have rejected the allegations, insisting that the claims are false and motivated by attempts to extort money from their pastor.
