The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of candidates from 50 secondary schools across Nigeria over alleged cases of examination malpractice during the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
In a letter dated August 2, 2026, and signed by the Head of Nigeria Office of WAEC, Dr Amos Dangut, the examination body informed affected schools that the decision was taken in line with its regulations on examination malpractice.
WAEC directed the affected schools to submit detailed reports explaining the alleged incidents within 14 days from the date of the notice, warning that failure to comply could lead to further sanctions.
The examination body said the withheld results would remain under review pending investigations into the alleged misconduct recorded during the examination exercise.
Among the schools affected are Victory College, Lagos; Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Ibadan; Pope John Paul II Minor Seminary, Okpoma, Cross River State; Greenland Academy, Abuja; Dominion Comprehensive College, Port Harcourt; Ideal Comprehensive College, Enugu; and Rosebud College, Benin City.
Other schools listed include Heritage College, Jos; Great Minds College, Kaduna; Excellent Scholars Academy, Kano; Fountain of Knowledge College, Abeokuta; City Gate College, Ilorin; Tansian University Secondary School, Uyo; White House College, Asaba; Noble Hall School, Warri; Deeper Life High School, Gbagada, Lagos; and Springfield College, Ondo.
The list also contains schools such as Wisdom Gate College, Makurdi; Royal Heritage Academy, Calabar; Success College, Awka; Prime International School, Gwarinpa; Legacy College, Sokoto; Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja; Rock Foundation College, Minna; and Bethany High School, Yola.
WAEC further identified schools including Bright Future Academy, Bauchi; Prestige College, Lagos; Hallmark Academy, Owerri; Graceland College, Akure; Solid Rock Academy, Ilorin; Palmcrest International School, Port Harcourt; Twin City College, Ado-Ekiti; Model College, Bida; Gospel Light College, Jebba-Ode; and Redeemed Christian School, Katsina among those affected.
The examination council added that other institutions on the list include Treasured Life College, Uyo; Supreme Education Foundation, Abeokuta; Scholars International College, Maiduguri; Pearl Comprehensive College, Lokoja; Dynamic Heights College, Yenagoa; Oxford College, Ibadan; Kingsway Academy, Gombe; City of Knowledge College, Kaduna; The Ambassadors College, Enugu; Progress International School, Asaba; Emmanuel College, Port Harcourt; Sweetwaters Secondary School, Lagos; Hope Academy, Lafia; Faith Comprehensive College, Uromi; and Topfaith International School, Jalingo.
WAEC has consistently warned schools, candidates and examination officials against engaging in activities capable of undermining the credibility of its examinations, including impersonation, collusion, illegal assistance and other forms of malpractice.
The council stated that its actions are aimed at protecting the integrity of the WASSCE and ensuring that certificates issued to successful candidates maintain their credibility both within Nigeria and internationally.
The affected schools are now expected to provide explanations and relevant documents to assist WAEC’s investigation process, after which final decisions will be made regarding the withheld results.
Examination malpractice remains one of the major challenges facing Nigeria’s education sector, with authorities repeatedly introducing stricter monitoring measures to discourage schools and candidates from engaging in fraudulent practices.
