Abia State government has disclosed that the accreditation of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, has been restored following the intervention of the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who approved the release of N450 million intervention fund to the institution.
The National Board for Technical Education( NBTE), explaining its action, said it de-accredited Abia Poly over non-payment of salaries to the staff of the institution for about 30 months, stressing that such a development was bound to affect quality assurance standards.
Upon the de-accreditation of the institution, Ikpeazu promised to restore the accreditation within one month.
In a statement announcing the restoration of Abia Poly’s accreditation, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barr Eze Chikamnayo, said the development followed the release of the sum of N450 million to the institution by the Governor, as well as the interface between the Committee set up by the Abia State government and officials of the NBTE.
The Commissioner noted that the State Government has put in measures to ensure sustainable best practices in the institution, going forward; adding that everything needed for the smooth running of the institution has been provided to ensure uninterrupted academic session.
He said that the Governor had through his action, demonstrated that the welfare of Abia students was top most in his consideration.
