Nigeria’s 2027 presidential race has begun to take shape as moves within the ruling All Progressives Congress signal President Bola Tinubu’s intention to seek another term in office.
This follows the decision of Ikeja Federal Constituency lawmaker, James Faleke, who obtained the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on behalf of the President, formally setting the re-election process in motion.
The forms were presented in Abuja by the APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, after the party declared the sale of forms open. Faleke, a close ally of the President and founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, handled both the collection and payment process.
The development marks a key step in Tinubu’s anticipated bid, with the forms reportedly costing N100 million, indicating the seriousness of preparations within the party ahead of the next general election.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has already outlined the timetable for the 2027 polls, giving political parties and aspirants a clear framework for their activities.
According to INEC, presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
The electoral body also fixed party primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026, a period during which parties are expected to select their candidates and resolve internal disputes.
Campaign activities for presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to commence on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly positions will begin on September 9, 2026.
With these timelines in place, political activities are gradually building up across the country as parties begin early positioning ahead of the nationwide polls.
