The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State the winner of the Ebonyi South Senatorial election, Sunday night.
Mr Umahi contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Announcing the result, the returning of Officer, at Afikpo, headquarters of the zone, Prof. Augustine Ogugua Egwu of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo, the returning officer announced that Umahi polled at a total of 27,855 votes to win hsi closest rival and candidate of LP, Hon. Linus Okorie who got 24,539 votes.
The incumbent Senator representing the zone and candidate of PDP, Michael Ama Nnachi got 23, 001 votes to place third while the APGA candidate polled 11398 votes.
Egwu noted that Umahi having satisfied all the requirements of the law is declared winner of the Ebonyi South Senatorial seat and her Senator-Elect.
Savouring his well deserved victory, Governor Umahi dedicated his victory to God and pledged to be a senator of all Ebonyians.
Also, the Labour Party candidate for Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency, Ebonyi State, Dr Nkemkanma Kama has been declared winner of the Constituency election.
The Returning Officer of the election, Onu Omaka announced that Kama scored 19, 921 votes to defeat his closest rival of the APC, Felix Igboke who scored 14, 231 votes, while the PDP candidate and the member currently representing the constituency, Livinus Makwe scored 7,506 votes.
The Honourable Member Representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency; Hon. (Comrade) Chinedu Ogah, has also emerged victorious at the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections held on 25th February 2023 and has been returned Re-elected by INEC.
He polled 32,298 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Nwanne Vitalis Ogbonna of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 12,708 votes.
Similarly, the member representing Afikpo North/South federal constituency, Ebonyi State, in the House of Representatives, Hon. Iduma Igariwey has defeated his All Progressives Congress, APC rival, Eni Uduma Chima.
Igariwey a PDP lawmaker who is the Vice Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation polled a total of 24,649 votes while Chima got 11,296 votes.
The result was announced at the constituency headquarters in Afikpo, Afikpo North by INEC’s returning Officer.
Igariwey who is a two term lawmaker, is seeking 3rd term in the House of Representatives.
In a related development, the candidate of All Progressives Congress for Ebonyi North zone, Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has been declared the winner of the senatorial election, having scored 65,863 which is the highest valid votes cast in the election.
