The Jigawa State Police Command has intensified its offensive against violent crime with the arrest of nine suspects linked to separate criminal incidents across the state, including murder, attacks on vigilante members and public unrest. The arrests followed coordinated operations carried out in different communities as security agencies stepped up efforts to restore peace.
Police authorities said the operation was part of an intelligence-driven campaign targeting individuals suspected of fueling violence in various parts of the state. The suspects were apprehended during raids conducted after weeks of investigations into a series of security breaches.
Among those arrested are individuals accused of participating in a violent clash at Gujungu Market in Taura Local Government Area, where a disturbance disrupted business activities and left several people injured. Investigators said efforts are continuing to identify and apprehend other suspects who escaped during the incident.
The command also confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to an attack on local vigilante operatives. The confrontation reportedly claimed the life of one person, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries before security personnel intervened to restore order.
In a separate development, detectives arrested another suspect in connection with an alleged murder case. The suspect is currently assisting investigators as police gather evidence to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
Police spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam said all the suspects are undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded. He stressed that the command would not tolerate acts of violence capable of threatening public safety.
The police urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting security agencies by providing useful information that could help prevent crime and lead to the arrest of fleeing suspects.
