Not fewer than five people have lost their lives in three separate incidents across Kano State, including two children, following a series of well accidents and a fire outbreak recorded in different local government areas.
The State Fire Service confirmed the tragedies in a statement released on Saturday by its spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi.
In the first incident, three men died in Badume Kanawa Village in Bichi Local Government Area while attempting to re-dig a well. Officials said the rope they were using suddenly snapped, trapping 65-year-old Sa’idu Gada inside the well.
His son, Sani Isyaku, 20, went in to rescue him but also became trapped. A third man, Yakubu Abdullahi, 60, followed in an attempt to help but similarly failed to return. Fire personnel recovered all three men unconscious, but they were later confirmed dead and handed over to the police.
Another incident occurred in Danbatta Local Government Area, where a 10-year-old boy, Hassan Iliyasu Haruna, fell into a well and died before help arrived.
The third tragedy was reported in Badawa Layin Day in Nassarawa Local Government Area on Thursday, December 4, 2025, after a fire engulfed part of a residential building. A 10-year-old girl was rescued unconscious but was later pronounced dead.
Fire Service Director, Sani Anas, urged residents to avoid entering wells to rescue trapped persons, warning that such attempts often lead to additional deaths.
