NGX: Investors record N33.71bn gain  as ASI appreciates  by 0.12%

Nigerian Equities Market closed positive as the key market indicator advanced by 61.90 bps amid positive market breadth

 The NGX All-Share Index advanced by 0.12% to close at 51,657.56 basis points as against a 0.67% gain recorded previously to close at 51,595.66 basis points at the end of the last trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records a N33.71bn gain.

At the end of today’s trading session, a total of 265,725,890 shares in 4,156 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 13,528,804,034.62, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Tuesday, January 3), today’s data shows 106% improvement in volume and 563% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 28.1 trillion.

In the aggregate, 108 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 12 losers. Nigerian Breweries led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 45.10 per share, followed by Nigerian Aviation Handling Co. (+10%), LivingTrust Mortgage Bank (+10%) and FCMB Group (+9.97%).

On the losing side, Champion Breweries came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 4.95 per share, followed by Unity Bank (-6.78%), United Bank for Africa (-3.61%) and Jaiz Bank (-3.33%). BUA Cement recorded the highest volume of 102 million traded shares, followed by Transcorp Nigeria (32.8m), Access Holdings (23m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (12.2m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 61.90 (0.12%) points to close at 51,657.56, representing a 1-week gain of 3.93%, a 4-week gain of 7.27%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 0.79%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 50 Index (+0.81%; +3.34% 1WK; +1.12% YTD), NGX Top 30 Index (+0.14%; +3.34% 1WK; +0.77% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+2.09%; +10.89% 1WK; +5.76% YTD), NGX Insurance Index (+0.93%; +7.28% 1WK; +3.5% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.58%; +2.27% 1WK; +1.59% YTD), and NGX Banking Index (+0.51%; +1.83% 1WK; +3.12% YTD).
