The Senate has approved the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele as a minister in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Lawmakers confirmed the nominee during plenary after a voice vote conducted in the Committee of the Whole.
The announcement was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio following the endorsement by senators.
Oyedele is expected to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State for Finance.
His confirmation came shortly after lawmakers concluded his ministerial screening.
During the session, senators questioned the nominee for more than two hours about his experience and plans for the ministry.
After the screening, the Senate agreed to confirm him as a minister-designate.
Speaking during the hearing, Taiwo Oyedele described his nomination as a call to serve the country.
He told lawmakers that his professional journey had focused on fiscal governance and economic reforms.
Oyedele explained that he has spent more than two decades working with governments, international institutions and global corporations.
According to him, his experience spans the private sector, academia and public policy.
He added that the opportunity to serve in government comes at a critical time for Nigeria’s economy.
Oyedele also thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating him for the ministerial position.
He said he was honoured to appear before the Senate and share his vision for the country’s fiscal future.
Before the appointment, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he helped drive changes to Nigeria’s tax system.
