The Nigerian Army on Thursday formally pulled out 18 senior officers from the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport after completing 35 years of service.
The retirement ceremony, marked by a colourful pulling-out parade, took place in Benin City, Edo State. It also signaled the end of a three-day conference organised by the corps.
The conference was themed around improving supply and transport systems to boost operational effectiveness across all military missions.
Speaking during the event, the Corps Commander, Maj.-Gen. Danjuma Shagaya, said the retired officers included four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals.
He noted that the officers had served the nation with dedication from the time they were commissioned until their retirement.
Shagaya described the ceremony as both a celebration and recognition of their years of sacrifice and contribution to the Nigerian Army.
He added that the pulling-out parade is a long-standing military tradition used to honour officers who have completed their service.
The corps commander also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff for sending a representative to honour the retiring officers.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Maj.-Gen. Olaniyi Dare said their careers spanned decades, during which they served in various operational, command, and administrative roles.
He explained that the Corps of Supply and Transport plays a vital role in ensuring soldiers across different operations are properly supported with logistics.
Dare said even in retirement, the officers remain committed to the values of the Nigerian Army and are ready to contribute their experience whenever needed.
