The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has allocated land to members of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers and approved a waiver of all statutory fees for their land titles.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Abuja on Friday.
Wike said the decision followed directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at recognising the role of indigenous communities in the territory. He noted that traditional rulers, as original inhabitants, deserve recognition and support from the government.
The minister also praised the rulers for maintaining peace during what he described as the most peaceful Area Council elections in the FCT. To further support their duties, Wike promised to provide utility vehicles to traditional rulers across the territory.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects in satellite towns, including the Airport-Kuje road, Bwari-Zuba link road, and developments in Apo, Karshi, and other areas.
On the fee waiver, Wike said it would be unfair to require traditional rulers to pay for land they have occupied for generations.
He added that the move is part of efforts to strengthen ties between the government and traditional institutions.
Speaking on behalf of the rulers, the Ona of Abaji and Chairman of the Council, Adamu Yunusa, expressed appreciation to the President and the minister.
He assured that traditional institutions in the FCT would continue to support government policies and contribute to peace and development.
