Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on his birthday, describing him as a man of “intellect, courage, and uncommon sagacity.”
Atiku shared the goodwill message on his official X account on Monday, praising El-Rufai’s leadership and service record despite political challenges.
“Happy Birthday to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. A man of intellect, courage, and uncommon sagacity,” Atiku wrote.
The former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate said El-Rufai’s achievements and clarity of purpose remain evident, even amid ongoing controversies.
“Even amid the present political persecution and needless distractions, his record of service and clarity of thought and purpose remain undeniable,” Atiku added.
He also wished El-Rufai strength, peace, and guidance in the years ahead.
El-Rufai recently returned to Nigeria from Egypt and has been in the news following his attempted arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and invitations from the EFCC and ICPC.
The former Kaduna governor wrote to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, seeking clarification over the alleged importation of thallium sulphate from Poland. He described the substance as highly dangerous and tightly regulated.
El-Rufai requested explanations on six key points, including the purpose of the chemical, the identity of the supplier, authorisation procedures, quantity and concentration, storage arrangements, and regulatory oversight involving NAFDAC, NCDC, and relevant agencies.
He emphasised that the request was made in good faith, aimed at strengthening public trust in institutions, and copies of the correspondence were sent to other relevant authorities.
The Office of the National Security Adviser reportedly directed El-Rufai to submit evidence of the alleged thallium sulphate procurement to the Department of State Services for further investigation.
