The Ilorin Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),on the morning of Monday, 19 February, 2024 quizzed a former governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, over alleged shady transactions running into billions of naira while he was in office.
The anti-sleaze agency, it was gathered, invited Ahmed for questioning relating to how his administration spent the funds.
Recall that Ahmed was governor of Kwara State between May 2011 and May 2019, before handing over to the incumbent, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
This is not the first time Ahmed will be questioned to give account of his stewardship while in office.
The former governor was interrogated in May 2021 by a crack team of operatives at the EFCC headquarters in the Jabi area of Abuja, the nation’s capital, in connection with the alleged diversion of funds to the tune of about N9 billion from the coffers of the Kwara State Government.
The money was alleged to have been diverted during Ahmed’s tenure as governor of the state, and when he served as the Commissioner for Finance in the administration of ex-Governor Bukola Saraki.
