Former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre by a Federal Capital Territory High Court following his arraignment over alleged corruption-related offences.
Justice Peter Kekemeke ordered his remand after the former tribunal boss pleaded not guilty to charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
At Thursday’s proceedings, the anti-graft agency informed the court that Umar should remain in custody pending the hearing of his bail application, arguing that it needed time to respond to the application already filed by the defence.
Lawyers representing the former CCT chairman urged the court to consider the bail request immediately, but the prosecution opposed the move, saying it had only just been served with the application and had not prepared its response.
After listening to both parties, Justice Kekemeke declined to hear the bail application and directed that Umar be taken to the Kuje Correctional Centre until the next adjourned date.
The court fixed July 15, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and further proceedings in the case.
The EFCC is prosecuting the former tribunal chairman on allegations of corruption and abuse of office allegedly committed during his tenure as head of the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Umar has denied all the allegations and is expected to defend himself when the trial resumes.
