The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has suspended commanders along the Lagos-Seme border following allegations of extortion by officers.
The decision came after viral online reports accused immigration personnel at the busy border route of harassing and extorting travellers. An immediate investigation has also been ordered to identify those involved.
The service strongly condemned the alleged actions, describing them as a violation of its ethics and operational standards, and vowed that offenders would face disciplinary measures.
Although the number of affected officers was not disclosed, authorities said all those found culpable would be punished without delay.
The Lagos-Seme corridor, which connects Nigeria to the Republic of Benin, is one of the busiest border routes in West Africa, handling heavy traffic of goods and passengers.
Over the years, the route has faced repeated complaints of harassment and extortion by security officials, with recent videos again drawing public attention to the issue.
Nandap reiterated her commitment to discipline, transparency, and accountability within the service, stressing that misconduct would not be tolerated.
The Immigration Service also urged the public to report any form of abuse through its official communication channels.
The agency added that it remains focused on delivering professional and efficient border services while maintaining integrity.
Authorities say the ongoing probe will ensure justice is served and help restore public trust in the system.
