Not fewer than five personnel of the National Park Service (NPS) were killed on Tuesday night when gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the agency’s office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The attack, which occurred at about 9 p.m., reportedly threw the area into panic as the assailants stormed the facility and opened fire on officials on duty.
The incident was confirmed by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, who said the attackers were yet to be identified, adding that security agencies had moved swiftly to the scene.
Ayanlade disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, alongside other service chiefs, was on his way to the location, while tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit had been deployed to prevent a further breakdown of law and order.
Security has since been tightened in the area as investigations continue into the deadly attack.
