The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a middle aged man identified as Tony for allegedly beheading his girlfriend named Ebibraaladei Maxwell in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Saturday.
The spokesman for the Command, Musa Mohammed, confirmed the arrest of Tony after attempting to flee the scene of the crime but was restrained by neighbours, and subsequently handed to the police.
The state police-image maker also confirmed that the suspect and the victim have been living together, although they are not married.
According to Mohammed, officers of the Command have removed the remains of the victim and deposited same at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, in Yenagoa.
“The Divisional Police Officer of Sagbama Division got the report and dispatched officers to the crime scene, who found out that the suspect had been apprehended by community youths.
“The suspect is being interrogated and will soon be charged to court while the remains of the deceased have been evacuated to the mortuary at Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa,” the police spokesman said.
