The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to vote against President Bola Tinubuif he fails to improve electricity supply.
Obi made the call while referencing a campaign promise by Tinubu, who had said he should not be re-elected if he could not deliver stable power within four years.
According to him, the current state of electricity in the country shows that the promise has not been fulfilled, as power generation has declined and tariffs have increased.
He argued that the situation reflects poor leadership and a lack of accountability, insisting that Nigerians must use their votes to demand better governance.
Obi also pointed out that Nigeria’s electricity consumption per capita remains far below the African average, describing it as a sign of deeper structural challenges in the sector.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that the power crisis goes beyond electricity, noting that it highlights broader issues of leadership capacity and commitment.
He urged citizens to reject leaders who fail to deliver on their promises, adding that governance should prioritise the welfare of the people rather than personal interests.
Obi maintained that the next election presents an opportunity for Nigerians to insist on competence, accountability, and improved service delivery across key sectors.
