Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been honoured as Turkey’s GQ Sportsman of the Year, adding another major achievement to an already outstanding spell in his club career. The award was presented to him on Wednesday at a high-profile ceremony in Istanbul.
The recognition comes as Osimhen continues to shine for Galatasaray, where he has become one of the club’s most influential players. His performances last season played a key role in the team’s success and earned him admiration from fans and officials.
GQ Turkey said the honour celebrates individuals who have made exceptional impact in their fields, and Osimhen’s contributions on and off the pitch placed him among this year’s top achievers. The 26-year-old forward stood out for his consistency, leadership, and goal-scoring ability.
Osimhen delivered a remarkable debut campaign for Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals and providing seven assists in 41 matches. His efforts helped the club secure both the Super Lig title and the Turkish Cup, cementing his place as one of the league’s biggest stars. His form also led Galatasaray to break the national transfer record by signing him permanently for €75 million.
This season, injuries have tested his momentum, but he has still managed 11 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions. For Nigeria, Osimhen continued to be a key figure during the World Cup qualifiers, scoring six goals in five matches after returning from injury.
He is expected to lead the Super Eagles once again when the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations begins in Morocco later this year. Supporters and analysts believe he will play a crucial role in Nigeria’s push for a fourth continental title.
After receiving the award, Osimhen thanked the organisers, his club, and his supporters. “I want to say a big thank you to GQ. Can’t forget my Galatasaray family. This means so much to my family and me. I appreciate everyone who has supported me up to this hour. I will continue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, for the fans all over the world,” he said.
The ceremony also celebrated several other personalities, including Turkish actor Aras Aydın, who received the International Achiever of the Year award, and actress Sinem Ünsal, who was named Woman of the Year.
