The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the nationwide deployment of police tactical assets to safeguard lives and property during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Disu extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria, congratulating them on completing the Ramadan fast and celebrating Eid-el-Fitr.
In a statement on Friday, police spokesperson Anthony Placid said the IG ordered Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to implement full security measures during the festive period.
The directive covers the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives, along with mobilising the Special Intervention Squad and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds and other key locations.
“Operational measures include increased presence at highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other public spaces to ensure peaceful and hitch-free celebrations,” part of the statement said.
Heightened visibility policing, coordinated patrols, and enhanced surveillance operations are also part of the IG’s orders to proactively prevent crime.
Intelligence-led stop-and-search duties have been emphasised to ensure rapid response to any emerging threats during the festive period.
The Inspector-General urged the public to remain alert, cooperate with law enforcement officers, and report suspicious activities promptly.
Citizens are encouraged to contact the nearest police station or use designated emergency lines for reporting any security concerns.
