Nigerian music producer and singer, Olumide Ogunade, popularly addresed as ID Cabasa has opened up on why the marriage between Abolore Akande, popularly called 9ice and his ex –wife Toni Payne collapsed like a pack of cards after two years.
Cabasa’s revelation on the duo failed marriage came as a result of the online drama between his friend, 9ive and Payne.
The music producer also revealed why he parted ways with his former signee, Abolore Akande, popularly called 9ice.
Cabasa revealed these in an interview with with media personality Chude Jideonwo Chude Jideonwo
In the interview ID Cabasa revealed that he was devastated when the whole drama was happening, adding that 9ice is the type of person, who isolates people when in the face of drama as the singer had isolated him while the drama between him and his ex-wife was happening.
He stated that if he was in the picture during that time, then the whole drama wouldn’t have happened.
ID Cabasa described the whole thing as the most painful episode as Seun (Toni Payne) was a nice woman and both of them were good together.
Although both parties have moved on from the drama and are doing well in their individual life and are best friends.
However, he is giving an insight into the drama and how furious he was he was when he heard of it, especially with 9ice.
“Definitely I was heartbroken! You know 9ice and I before the whole thing happened, I think that’s the way the devil works, he will isolate you. I think a lot of things happened that to date I can tell you 9ice cannot sit down and say this was what happened between Cabasa and I. Because I was in the whole picture, what happened wouldn’t have happened.
It’s one of the most painful episodes in all of this. Because Seun was 9ice and 9ice was Seun. Both of them were good together. By the way, both of them are still very fine now. Ah! They’re ‘padis’ now. And thank God 9ice is married to a very beautiful soul again. Seun is doing fine and Zion too is doing very well. But that particular episode, I’ll give some insights today which probably I’ve never shared with anyone. When I heard that all of that stuff happened, I was angry, majorly with 9ice. Because I felt in my head that look, guy, you’re one of the luckiest that I see around here. This babe is your friend blah blah blah. When they told me the things that happened, none of these things had the potential of even causing (the problem)”.
Cabasa claimed that 9ice was upset by his decision to continue working with his ex-wife, Toni Seun Payne.
Recall that Payne managed artistes under Cabasa’s Coded Tunes Record, a label that had 9ice and singer Olamide.
Cabasa, who said his decision to continue working with Payne after the couple’s breakup did not sit well with 9ice, also has revealed why he chose to keep Payne on his team.
According to the producer, he did it for 9ice and Payne’s son, Zion, who was born in 2008.
“When I started pushing Olamide, you noticed I brought Toni Payne in. 9ice was angry but he had no idea why I brought her in. I brought her in because I needed to keep Payne and her son, Zion, close to 9ice. I felt 9ice may never see his son again if she takes Zion abroad,” Cabasa said. Recall that the ‘Gongo aso’ exponent, 9ice, got married to Toni Payne in 2008 but the relationship hit the rock in 2010, after being married for a year.
Their divorce was enmeshed in controversies and accusations of infidelity. And even at that their short-lived marriage however produced a son, Zion, who currently lives with his mum.
While 9ice sought succor in the arms of other women including, Olasunkanmi Ajala, who has a daughter for him, Toni, who was once 9ice’ manager, remained a single parent. She at one point also worked as a manager to popular musician Olamide.
In 2016, after 10 years of separation, 9ice tendered an apology to Toni.
He officially clarified that Toni Payne never cheated on him and that their marriage failed due to other reasons.
In her response to his statement, an exonerated Toni Payne, who had suffered scorn, especially on social media over the allegation that she cheated on the singer while they were married, expressed her joy and happiness.
Speaking out about their marriage, Payne revealed that it cost her a lot, adding that 9ice is the only man that broke her heart
In a series of tweets, Payne admitted she and 9ice are not destined to be together, even though they have a child together.
