The Indigenous People of Biafra has announced the total cancellation of the weekly sit-at-home order in the South-East region. The new directive will take effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.
The group’s leadership said that the era of staying at home on Mondays is over and that people are free to resume their normal activities.
The cancellation was confirmed by the group’s spokesperson, who said the directive came directly from the organisation’s leader.
Residents have been asked to return to schools, markets, offices, and workplaces without fear or intimidation.
The sit-at-home order had been in place for years as a form of protest and led to repeated shutdowns of economic and social life in the region.
Under the new directive, all transport services and business activities are expected to resume fully and normally on Mondays.
The group also urged people to remain calm and law-abiding as normal life returns to the communities.
Officials said there is no justification for refusing to go about daily routines now that the sit-at-home order has been lifted.
Residents were reminded that schools should reopen and children should return to classes from Monday without disruption.
The cancellation marks a major shift after years of weekly closures that affected businesses, education, and movement across the South-East.
