Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State governor, said human rights are essential for a fair and strong society, and that everyone should be treated with dignity regardless of religion, culture, or background.
Speaking on the 2025 World Human Rights Day, Soludo said human rights are sacred and not open to compromise. “Human rights are as sacred as the values they represent. Every human deserves the right to live, to safety, to succeed, and to thrive without fear or inhibition,” she said.
She added that promoting equality, freedom, and respect for all people is key to societal progress. “It’s true that understanding human rights and preserving them are what make a society stronger and better. Our everyday lives rely heavily on how we treat others. We must look beyond differences in race, background, gender and beliefs,” she said.
Soludo also stressed the importance of unity and fairness, warning against fear, alienation, and extremism in society. “This uniqueness should unite us more than it divides us. No one deserves to live in a society ruled by fear, alienation, and extremism,” she said.
She reiterated that everyone — no matter their creed, cultural, political, or religious differences — deserves full human dignity. “It’s not negotiable!” she added.
In her remarks, Soludo called on individuals, especially women, to be active promoters of peace and harmony in homes and communities, urging people to uphold moral values and work together for a safer and more just society.
