Nigeria’s examination body, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has dismissed a widely shared UTME result claiming a candidate scored 394, describing it as completely fake.
The result, which spread quickly on social media, allegedly showed a student from Cross River State achieving near-perfect scores across four subjects, drawing widespread attention online.
However, in an official response, JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin clarified that the document did not originate from the board and should be ignored.
According to the board, UTME results are currently accessible only through approved viewing channels and are not issued in printable formats like the one being circulated.
Officials pointed out that the viral slip contained clear irregularities, including a format that does not match JAMB’s official result structure.
They also noted inconsistencies in the registration number displayed, explaining that it does not align with the system-generated pattern used by the board.
The fake result had claimed an unusually high score, sparking excitement and debate before authorities stepped in to debunk it.
JAMB warned candidates and the public against trusting unofficial result formats, stressing that only verified channels should be relied upon for accurate information.
The board also expressed concern over how easily fabricated content spreads online, urging Nigerians to be more cautious before sharing unverified claims.
This development comes amid increasing cases of result manipulation and digital fraud linked to examination processes.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to protect the credibility of public examinations and ensure that offenders are identified and prosecuted.
Candidates have been advised to check their results only through official means and avoid falling victim to misinformation circulating on social media.
