A 31-year-old man in Delta State has been arrested after allegedly planning the abduction of the same woman who cared for him during his childhood.
The suspect, identified as Chukwemeka Destiny, was apprehended by the Delta State Police Command after his plan to kidnap his aunt failed before it could be carried out.
According to police authorities, the man reportedly paid about ₦900,000 to individuals he believed were kidnappers to execute the plan.
Investigations revealed that the woman he targeted had raised him from a young age and supported his upbringing and education before he later distanced himself from the family.
In a surprising twist, the supposed kidnappers did not carry out the operation. Instead, they reportedly alerted authorities and handed the suspect over, preventing the crime.
Police described the incident as part of a troubling pattern where individuals turn against those who once helped them, warning that such cases are becoming more frequent.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted involvement but claimed he could not clearly explain why he decided to go after his benefactor.
He also disclosed that the money used for the plot came from his personal business earnings, adding that payments were made in installments.
The intended victim expressed shock upon learning of the development, stating that she had not maintained close contact with him for years.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, with possible prosecution expected.
