The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 68 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), one of the highest honours in the country’s legal profession.
The decision was reached during the committee’s 174th Plenary Session held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.
Out of the successful candidates, 67 were elevated under the advocate category, while one legal scholar was appointed under the academic category.
A statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, said all successful applicants will be formally sworn in on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Before the ceremony, the new SANs are expected to participate in the mandatory Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN) Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme.
The committee also reminded all successful candidates to comply with its ethical guidelines by avoiding public advertisements, congratulatory notices or celebrations before the official conferment.
The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is reserved for legal practitioners who have distinguished themselves through excellence in courtroom advocacy or outstanding contributions to legal scholarship.

Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri was the only recipient elevated under the academic category.
