Lionel Messi has scored his 900th career goal, but Inter Miami were eliminated from the MLS playoffs.
The Argentine star, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest, still trails his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 965 career goals.
Miami manager Javier Mascherano, Messi’s former Argentina and Barcelona teammate, described the milestone as “insane.”
Mascherano said he had the privilege of watching many of Messi’s goals up close, calling him “one of a kind.”
“The number we’re talking about (900) is insane,” he added, praising Messi’s unique talent and consistency.
Messi’s 900th goal came as he continued to influence games with his dribbling, vision, and finishing ability.
Despite the personal achievement, Inter Miami failed to win their playoff match, ending their campaign prematurely.
Fans celebrated Messi’s milestone, noting that scoring 900 goals is a rare feat in modern football.
The achievement brings Messi closer to Ronaldo’s record, though the Portuguese striker remains ahead in career totals.
