President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to carry out a full investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal and submit its findings within 30 days.
The order comes amid growing public outrage over allegations that a non-existent government agency operated using forged official documents, opened multiple bank accounts and allegedly found its way into the 2026 federal budget.
In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Tinubu said the investigation must identify everyone involved in the alleged fraud and determine how the purported agency was able to present itself as a legitimate government institution. (punchng.com)
The President instructed the anti-corruption agency to investigate claims of forged appointment letters, fake government approvals, suspicious financial transactions and the opening of bank accounts allegedly linked to the PFIPC.
He also directed the commission to uncover any officials or private individuals who may have aided the activities of the alleged syndicate, stressing that those found culpable must be brought to justice.
The Presidency maintained that the PFIPC was never created or recognised by the Federal Government and described its operators as fraudsters who allegedly exploited government institutions for personal gain.
Meanwhile, the Senate has rejected suggestions that it played any role in the controversy after reports claimed the agency appeared in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
The upper chamber insisted that it only considers budget proposals submitted by the Executive and cannot be held responsible for the inclusion of any agency not officially recognised by the Federal Government.
The ICPC is expected to submit its report within one month, with the Presidency promising that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation as efforts continue to unravel the full extent of the alleged scandal.
