A physical altercation involving Burna Boy and DJ Tunez at a Lagos event has stirred controversy across the Nigerian music industry. The incident reportedly happened on Monday night at Obi’s House, where a disagreement escalated into a clash between Burna Boy’s camp and DJ Tunez, widely known as the official DJ for Wizkid.
DJ Tunez took to his social media account shortly after the altercation to share his account of what happened. “FIRST OFF… YOU HIT ME IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD WITHOUT ME LOOKING! THAT’S SOME SUCKA SHIT MY BOY!” he wrote, adding that he stood his ground despite being outnumbered during the confrontation.
Hours later, Wizkid weighed in with pointed remarks on his social media platform. In his message, he mocked the reported incident, writing: “Pussy nigga jump a DJ with 10 man carry diddy towel dey dance. I never see fool like this diddy babe for my life,” a post that has been widely circulated and interpreted as a direct critique of Burna Boy’s actions.
In reaction to the clash, the Nigerian DJ Association announced a temporary ban on Burna Boy’s music from DJs’ playlists both in Nigeria and abroad. In a public statement shared on Instagram, the association said Burna Boy’s songs are “temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice” while an investigation into the incident involving DJ Tunez is carried out.
The association’s statement emphasized unity and respect among entertainment professionals, urging DJs to reject discrimination and uphold “equal justice, equal opportunity and equal dignity” in the industry.
Burna Boy himself has also made public gestures that fans see as commentary on the incident. Videos shared online show him dancing to a track featuring DJ Tunez while altering the lyric “Ogbafia dey my side” to “Ogbafia dey for ground,” a phrase interpreted by many as a direct jab at the DJ following the clash.
The evolving situation has put a spotlight on tensions within the Afrobeats scene, with fans and commentators debating loyalty, rivalry and professionalism. As of now, Burna Boy’s management has not released an official statement clarifying his side of the story.
