A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted permission to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to access and analyse electronic devices recovered from the residence of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The order was issued after the anti-graft agency filed an application requesting approval to examine the items as part of an ongoing investigation involving the former governor.
The commission told the court it needed to inspect the devices and carry out forensic analysis to extract information that may be relevant to its investigation.
Investigators had earlier recovered several electronic items during a search conducted at El-Rufai’s residence in Abuja.
The devices reportedly include mobile phones, flash drives, storage drives, a laptop computer and other digital equipment believed to contain important data.
Authorities said the examination would allow investigators to retrieve materials such as messages, call logs, documents, photographs and other digital records that could assist the probe.
The search of the residence was carried out as part of a broader investigation linked to allegations involving the former governor.
However, El-Rufai has challenged the search of his home in court, arguing that the action violated his constitutional rights.
In his suit, the former governor is also seeking compensation while asking the court to declare the search and seizure of items from his residence unlawful.
The matter remains before the court as the investigation continues and legal arguments over the search of the property proceed.
