Former Manchester United winger Michael Owen has said he does not understand why there are doubts about Michael Carrick becoming the permanent manager of Manchester United.
Carrick, 44, was appointed caretaker head coach in January after the club parted ways with Ruben Amorim.
Since taking charge, the former United midfielder has led the team to an impressive run of results, winning six of his first eight matches in charge.
The good form has helped Manchester United move from sixth position to third place in the Premier League standings.
Speaking on the The Wayne Rooney Show podcast on Friday, Owen said Carrick has brought stability back to Old Trafford and deserves serious consideration for the job permanently.
Owen said he could not understand why people were still questioning Carrick despite the results the team has achieved under him.
According to him, the club has tried several big-name managers since the era of Alex Ferguson, but success has remained difficult to achieve.
Carrick spent many years at the club as a player, making 464 appearances and playing a key role during United’s successful period under Ferguson.
Former United striker Wayne Rooney also praised Carrick, saying the caretaker manager has done an unbelievable job since taking over.
Rooney added that many people inside the club support Carrick but fear the risk if the appointment does not eventually work out.
