Driver Dies In SUV Crash On Lagos Expressway

A motorist has lost his life after a Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle was involved in a lone accident along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos State.

The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday around the Charity Bus Stop area inward Iyana Isolo, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Authorities said the SUV reportedly lost control while in motion and somersaulted several times before coming to a stop. The impact of the crash severely damaged the vehicle and trapped the driver inside the wreckage.

Officials disclosed that the driver died instantly as a result of injuries sustained during the accident. Emergency responders later arrived at the scene to recover the body and clear the affected section of the road.

LASTMA personnel monitoring traffic around the corridor were among the first responders to the scene. They worked alongside officers from the Mosafejo Police Division to remove the deceased from the mangled vehicle and restore the free flow of traffic.

The agency described the accident as a tragic reminder of the dangers associated with excessive speed and loss of vehicle control on major highways.

Road safety authorities have continued to urge motorists to obey traffic regulations, maintain safe speeds, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over road accidents on major routes in Lagos and other parts of the country, where speeding, reckless driving, and poor vehicle maintenance remain major causes of fatal crashes.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are expected to continue as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the crash.
