A Lagos court has sentenced two men to 40 years in prison for making and selling fake alcoholic drinks.
Otuorimuno Nelson Aziakpono, 58, brewed the fake wines and spirits, while 28-year-old Ikegwuonu Davidson Ikechukwu sold them. Both admitted to the charges in court.
Authorities said the men were caught after tips revealed they were faking popular drinks like Hennessy, Jameson Whiskey, Williams Lawson Scotch, and Gordon’s Gin. During arrest, police found bottles, labels, and corks used to make the fake drinks.
Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa warned about the health risks of consuming fake alcohol. He sentenced each man to five years for each of eight charges, totaling 40 years, with an option to pay N10 million per charge instead.
