Not fewer than 12 people have been injured after gunshots were fired near a community festival in Toledo, Ohio, United States, turning a festive gathering into a scene of panic and confusion.
The incident occurred close to the Old West End Festival, an annual cultural event known for music performances, food vendors, and large public attendance in one of the city’s historic neighbourhoods.
Police said preliminary findings suggest the shooting involved at least two individuals exchanging gunfire in or around a crowded area, causing people to run in different directions as the situation escalated rapidly.
Emergency services arrived shortly after the incident and rushed the injured victims to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the victims include teenagers and adults, with ages ranging from 14 to 61.
Officials further disclosed that two of the victims are in critical condition, while the remaining injured persons are in stable condition and receiving medical care.
Law enforcement agencies have since launched a manhunt for the suspects involved, while also reviewing CCTV footage and videos captured by witnesses at the scene to aid identification.
Authorities condemned the shooting, describing it as a disturbing act of violence in a public space meant for celebration, and assured residents that efforts are ongoing to bring those responsible to justice.
Investigations are continuing as police work to determine the motive behind the attack and prevent further violence in the area.
