Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has been appointed as Senior Strategic Adviser to the Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The appointment, announced by the agency, places Osinbajo in a critical role aimed at strengthening Africa’s health systems and policy direction.
In his new position, he is expected to provide strategic guidance on global health reforms, sustainable financing, and local production of medical supplies across the continent.
The move comes as Africa CDC intensifies efforts to boost the continent’s health security and reduce dependence on foreign medical imports.
Director-General Jean Kaseya described Osinbajo’s appointment as timely, noting that his experience in governance, law, and policy would be valuable in advancing Africa’s health agenda.
Osinbajo, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 2015 to 2023, is expected to support high-level policy coordination, partnerships, and reforms within the African Union’s health framework.
The role will also see him contribute to initiatives focused on pandemic preparedness, healthcare financing, and strengthening regional collaboration among African countries.
His appointment signals a broader push by Africa CDC to leverage experienced African leaders in shaping the continent’s health future.
